Last Call for 26-27 Registration!
MBA CHAPTER - STATEN ISLAND, NY
Hello! Just checking in to let everybody know a few things as the calendar is about to flip to October. With the start of the MLB playoffs and NHL opening night, I’m all sports’d up and ready to TALK SHOP. Anyway, I’ll stop yelling and proceed with the details:
SCANDAL!
Sunday October 4th will be the LAST DAY TO REGISTER for the 2026-27 MBA Season. I know what you're thinking: “I thought we had more time!” - This is NOT true. We’d like to get everyone locked in so we can address specifics for the season and upcoming events. If you’d like to join us, please do so by clicking HERE and relieve yourself of this great mental burden. In all seriousness, come have some fun! (..in a timely manner.)
As we begin yet another campaign, a minor controversy clouds the Staten Island chapter, unfortunately. It has been brought to our attention that ALL but ONE of the chapter’s championship banners that hung at our beloved Mother Pugs Saloon have been taken down. The only banner to remain? You guessed it: (or stopped reading a few minutes ago) Co-Chapter leader and league Czar Dan Derwin. While I, your current author, have no issue with this, it seems that many do. MBA veteran Heather O’Shea confronted the owner of said saloon and asked him why this was the case. Johnny Eggz replied instantly with “Because I know him!” Many questions remain: Where are the banners currently? Were they removed ceremoniously? What will the league do going forward to commemorate the champions both past and present? These questions remain to be answered.
Speaking of champions, on the first day of the 2026 Punk Rock Mini Golf event presented by Maker Park Radio, a few Staten Island chapter champions happened to be in attendance. They commiserated, took pictures, and waxed poetic about seasons past. “Why are we taking this picture? Should I get out of the way?” exclaimed Mike Calscibetta, the first ever league champion in 2012-13. “Where is Geoff Celis and Kevin Rogers when you need them?” said Sean Kuhl, the first time reigning champion between sips of beer. It made a few people teary eyed to see so much greatness in one place. Word is it made a few people sick, also.
Four generations of champions
Anyway - we will be celebrating 15 years this MBA season so sign up now so you can see what (if anything) we get up to! Again, registration ends this Sunday October 4th, 2026! We hope to see YOU soon!
